Covergirl Mascara & BB Cream Review

Monday, December 17, 2018

FINALLY Covergirl has gone cruelty free! I prefer to use only cruelty free products and while there are now many more drugstore (affordable) brands that are cruelty free, the major ones (Revlon, Maybelline, etc) have yet to stop unethical animal testing and Covergirl is leading by example now!

The first two things I wanted to try from Covergirl was the foundation and mascara, I honestly couldn't decide which foundation is my shade so I saved that for another time and opted for BB cream. BB cream is something I honestly want to use more often because I prefer a more minimal natural product for everyday look but I don't bother with BB cream because 1) my face has a lot of redness and BB cream can't cover it well enough 2) BB cream shades are VERY limited. But seeing as Covergirl is affordable, I bought the two BB creams they carry- CG Smoothers and Clean Matte. (I got both in Light To Medium and I am a light golden tone.) I also wanted to try their mascaras because I love me some big false looking lashes so i love trying new and affordable mascaras. Let's get into the review...

  • CG Smoothers: This BB cream includes SPF which is awesome but this BB cream is sheer and has a pink undertone. It has a natural finish to it and wasn't very buildable for me but was easy to apply. It feels really nice on the skin but can get oily throughout the day, even with powder over it. You do get a lot of product in this bottle, though!

  • Clean Matte: This BB cream is my fav of the two. It's not as pink undertone, it's more neutral and even a bit yellowish if you build it up. It's definitely matte and feels really nice all day. It's a medium coverage and can be built to a full coverage. It doesn't have SPF and it's half the product of the CG Smoothers but honestly this BB cream is almost a foundation- the coverage is that good! It also doesn’t get oily throughout the day!

  • Clump Crusher: This mascara is awesome! It claims to provide 10% more volume than the bestseller, LashBlast. The curve of the brush helps provide separation and curl and the many fine tooth bristles also help separate and define. I really like this one! It does help make lashes longer (but it's noticeable with the added fibers) and it is so buildable. I love how it defines my lashes and it does keep a curl but not as well as I'd like. I think it's great, nonetheless! It definitely doesn't clump up either.

  • Professional Super Thick Mascara: I bought this one only because I love fiber brushes. They feel nicer and tend to work better. Plastic bristles can give a less natural feel and application to your lashes. It's like a hair brush. A fiber bristle will grab on better to hair than a plastic comb would. The hair just glides off the plastic whereas a fiber really grips onto hair. This mascara works well! it doesn't separate lashes as well as Clump crusher but it does help fill in the lashes and give some volume. It's not bad for the price! I would still recommend it. I just had higher hopes for building longer lashes.

  • Lash Blast: This is the bestseller, the top voted mascara. I saved this one for last when trying my mascara's because I knew it would be impressive, since everyone raves about it. I personally, however, do not like it. It is buildable and does define lashes but my lashes look "spikey" and so fake with this mascara. My lashes don't look like lashes they look like spider legs. I did get this mascara in brown and use it for my bottom lashes but I don't like it at all for my top lashes.
