I know this date just like my own birthday. August 5th/6th marks the anniversary of the death of screen icon and beauty legend, Marilyn Monroe.
It's been about 10 years that I've spent fascinated with this woman. Marilyn Monroe seems to be the most known symbol but while many think they know enough about her, there's so much to this actress, model, singer, wife, sister, daughter, and friend. As if her "suicide" isn't enough to make this woman mysterious, Marilyn Monroe's childhood and rise to stardom is also just as intriguing. Her marriages and personal life is still barely transparent and it seems that almost every year she is gone, we uncover something about her life and who she was.
I'm naturally a geek about conspiracies and mysteries. To me Marilyn Monroe is a woman we think we understand and know. I've read so many books, seen so much footage, and gathered a lot of archives but I always learn something I never knew, and I always find myself amazed at how one woman can stay famous all these years- and rather how one woman becomes even more famous after her death.
To me, Marilyn is all of us. She's someone so powerful, but behind the scenes, so weak. Woman hate her but want to be her. Men long for a woman like her but know she is trouble. Marilyn will always remain a person of study because everything she is is everything we are or want to be. Suicide or not, dumb blonde or not, controversial or not, she is as human as she is legendary.
