Show Review: Lizzie Borden Chronicles

Friday, October 14, 2016

I kept getting a recommendation on Netflix for the movie Lizzie Borden Took An Axe and while it looked good, cus I like scary movies, it just didn't seem unique or anything worth watching. When I read that this story is actually true and that many movies have been depicted based off the facts, I became very intrigued, the cherry on top was that it stars Christina Ricci, whom I think is a great actress!

I watched Lizzie Borden Took An Axe and then I saw on Netflix that this movie and story turned into a series and it's even better because it stars the same two female roles, Christina Ricci (Casper, The Adams Family) and Clea DuVall (Girl, Interrupted, The Grudge) as her sister, Emma. Clea plays a very concerned, mature sister who finds Lizzie's casual, threatening personality troubling. Christina is the perfect actress to play a stone-cold, creepy, killer who uses charm to try to get her reputation back after being accused of her parents horrendous death in 1892.

This series is a really good one. It reminds me of one of my fav shows, Bates Motel, in which the characters are constantly faced with problems that involve violence or murder as solutions. The scenery, props, and costumes are all very tasteful and I think the soundtrack is nice because it's a little modern and adds spooky ambiance to the scenes. It's a Lifetime show, and typically Lifetime makes really great material! Check out the trailer below!
